When at-home skincare treatments fall short, microneedling offers a minimally invasive solution to rejuvenate your skin and restore a healthy glow. Tamburrino Plastic Surgery & Med Spa provides SkinPen® microneedling in Doylestown, PA, for individuals who want an effective, versatile treatment to enhance their skin’s overall appearance.

What Is SkinPen?

SkinPen is the first FDA-approved microneedling device, offering safe and precise treatments for all skin types. This advanced collagen induction therapy creates micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production to improve the appearance of scars, pores, fine lines, and stretch marks.

What Is Collagen Induction?

Collagen is a fibrous protein that helps keep skin supple, smooth, and firm. As you age, your natural supply of collagen is depleted, and your skin becomes thinner and less elastic. Microneedling creates small micro-injuries in your skin, prompting your body to increase collagen production and generate new skin cell growth. Once healed, your complexion is firmer, brighter, and healthier.

What Are the Benefits of Microneedling?

Patients choose microneedling with SkinPen for its numerous benefits:

  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and stretch marks
  • Comprehensive improvements to the look and feel of your skin
  • Boosts collagen and elastin production for long-lasting results
  • Minimally invasive with little to no downtime

With quick and effective treatments, SkinPen enhances your skin from the inside out.

Who Is a Candidate?

Microneedling is a versatile, science-backed treatment suitable for all skin types.

It is ideal for patients experiencing mild to moderate skin concerns such as:

  • Rough skin texture
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars or stretch marks

Microneedling can be performed on various areas, including the face, neck, arms, and chest. Microneedling is suitable for all skin types, but we don’t recommend it if you have been on Accutane in the last few months or have an open wound, active skin infection, or herpes simplex. In addition, you may not be a candidate for microneedling if you’re pregnant, nursing, or undergoing radiation therapy.

If you are not a good candidate for microneedling, we are happy to discuss alternatives with you. These alternatives often include dermal fillers, such as JUVÉDERM® or Restylane®, or skin renewal treatments like chemical peels or laser and light treatments.

Your Microneedling Treatment

Microneedling is performed in-office and typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. Here’s what to expect:

  • Preparation: We cleanse the treatment area and apply a numbing cream for comfort.
  • Procedure: The SkinPen device creates hundreds of micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating the body’s healing response, including collagen production. To enhance results, we may apply a topical serum or vitamin-rich solution.

After your treatment, we apply a moisturizer and sunscreen to protect the sensitive skin.

What To Expect After Microneedling

Since the skin injuries are so small, there are usually no significant side effects after the treatment. After your microneedling session:

  • Mild redness and swelling may occur but typically resolve within a day.
  • Results develop over 1 to 2 months as collagen production increases.

For optimal results, we recommend a series of 3 to 6 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Once you have reached your goal, we suggest scheduling touch-up sessions about twice a year.
